There's an idiotic bill pending that will essentially shut down small farmers, farm stands, and farmers' markets in the name of "food safety". If you don't think it's a good idea for all food production to be under the jurisdiction of a White House-appointed food czar, check out this link.

Here's another stupid and mindless bill that's wreaking havoc all over the country -- the "Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)" that took effect recently. Any products that children might use - clothing, toys, books, sporting equipment - are included. It even affects libraries: some have been advised to remove any book printed before 1985 in case the ink contains some miniscule amount of lead. Even First Communion items - rosaries, statues, holy cards - are affected. And children's snow mobiles and all-terrain vehicles are now banned.

ReplyDeleteConcerning CPSIA, does that mean you can't make children's night-lights at all? I mean, if they're banning good old fashioned incandescent bulbs in favor of mercury-laden CFLs, and simultaneously prohibiting "dangerous" items from being manufactured for children....
