Good grief, I haven't posted this yet??
Well, Katie turned 9 this year. Everybody knows that the best thing about being nine is... that you're almost ten!
Katie seems not to mind the wait. She loves being nine. She tells everyone we meet that she's nine. And she was very full of plans for her birthday.
She had grand ideas about her birthday cake.

Since I wasn't able to purchase the whipped cream in time for breakfast crepes (13th anniversary weekend, blah blah), her nineness deigned to allow us to make a quick trip to the store for some, to apply to the cupcakes. On top of the icing. And add sprinkles.

The kids thought it was the BEST birthday dessert EVER.
Katie had a great birthday during the week, then continued the festivities on the weekend with her friends. She requested that everyone dress up as princesses.

...We never actually did drink the tea, because I forgot to brew it in time. The lemonade was acceptable, though.

Despite the girliness of the theme, some male members of the family had no qualms whatever using the party plates, so long as there was plenty of food and/or cake on it.
This next picture is entitled: the difference between girls and boys. Everyone sat politely in her spot while Katie opened all her presents one by one, and thanked each person enthusiastically for the gift. Some friends had to leave early, so she wanted to make sure they got to see the presents opened before they left.
They had lots of fun playing games that Katie and Miriam decided upon and ran. I am all about children being self-sufficient in the directing of their own birthday parties. :) I'm not sure what games they were playing in the basement -- all
we could tell from upstairs is that they involved lots of shrieking.

One funny thing that happened is that Katie wanted to play "Pin the Crown on the Princess," but we hadn't had any time to purchase or make a game. One of her presents happened to be an enormous art supply set, so they ripped it open and everyone designed her own crown while Katie made the poster.

A good time was had by all! It was hard getting the girls out the door at the supposed end of the party. A good sign. :) We're so blessed that our children have such good friends. God has surrounded us with so much goodness, I feel like it acts as a buffer against what the world holds outside. Or better yet, a consolation.
