Andrew at 3 months, part 2
(Just realized I never published this post from a few weeks ago...)
Cute baby fest! Cute baby fest! (found these videos on the girls' camera)
So, lemme tell ya about 3-month-old baby blessings. This baby is awesome. He really, truly is. The best argument ever for being open to life.
He is so content. The first month was a little rocky -- lots of nursing and changing diapers and holding and not-getting-anything-done. But then the magical six week mark came and went, and all his little systems began to regulate themselves and I knew what to expect. He fell easily into an eat-play-sleep pattern, pretty much on his own. As long as I make sure that he gets a full meal every 2 hours (no nap-nursing!) the rest falls into place. I'm still not getting anything done, but now I have more time not to do it in. :)
And NOW, because he eats regularly during the day, at 3 months he is a marathon sleeper at night! He's not sleeping ALL through the night, but he regularly goes for 5-6 hours -- waking up for the first time after 3am (it's the midnight feedings that are the hardest, I think -- it's always just as you've entered a deep sleep cycle). He'll wake up quietly, eat, and fall back asleep until morning, usually 6 or later. Then he'll fall BACK asleep for another 30-45 mins. while I get up, shower, and get the bigger boys prepped for the day. It's AWEsome. Every once in a while he'll have a crazy afternoon where he can't stay awake for a full feeding, and wants to nurse every 20 minutes and doze in between times, or an evening where he'll be up until 11 or something, but those are pretty rare. One evening I actually had to wake him up before I went to bed, so he could eat before I exploded. :)
ALSO, he will FALL ASLEEP ON HIS OWN. IN HIS OWN BED. It's hard to believe he's one of our own children. As long as he is swaddled snugly and has access to his thumb, he's golden. He's our first thumb-sucker, and let me tell you, it's a beautiful thing. And so cute. You know, Joseph sucked his fingers for a couple months, too -- that was heavenly while it lasted.
Andy loves his siblings. Joseph can be doing things in his face that I would find totally obnoxious, and Andy will just stare wide-eyed and amused. He gets held a lot, too -- Katie loves to pick him up and entertain him, and Miriam is a star at getting him to sleep. She loves holding him in the Mei Tai while she does her school work. I wouldn't say he's spoiled -- he's just as content sitting in his little bouncy seat. But he does enjoy being held -- especially being up where he can see what's going on. He also likes his tummy time now, despite the fact that I totally ignored the pediatrician's recommendation to keep him on his tummy for 20 minutes every day starting right at the beginning. Um, no, thank you, I don't enjoy listening to my newborn wail for 19 1/2 minutes every day. Instead, he got held upright a lot, and as a result his neck and spine are perfectly strong, tyvm.
He is just a pure delight. We should have named him Benedict -- he is so blessed, and blessing us with his life! AND he has perfectly chubbable cheeks, oh yes you do, you widdle scwumptious babbykins you, gootchie gootchie goo!

Homemade Christmas
This year, since I had a new baby and all, I didn't have the time to do much for homemade presents. But I did manage to put together one little gift for a sweet niece. I got the inspiration from this post on my all-time favorite mommy blog.
This was so fun and quick to make -- I think it took me two evenings (and that's with a nursing baby). I didn't use a pattern; I just winged it, using little bits of things left over from other projects. Everything was hand-stitched -- it took less time than threading the machine. :)
I wish I had more time to do fun little things like this. I love sewing and knitting, but my time is not my own. Having more time for creating is one of the things I'm looking forward to as the children get older, as bittersweet as that time will be.

Andy has been giggling up a storm lately. He thinks Mr. Pickles is hilARious. We've got lots of video, but for some reason the format isn't compatible with my laptop. As soon as the resident technology guru fixes that for me I'll upload some movies so your brains can overload from the cuteness!
