{pretty, happy, funny, real} Home Improvement edition!

{pretty}
Isn't this just the prettiest little townhouse anywhere?  Don't you think someone will just want to snatch it up once it goes on the market?

{happy}
Looklooklook!  Look at the dishes!  A machine washed them!  And they're actually clean!  And they sparkle!  And they're not covered in sand!  Do you see the sparkle?  *bing!*  Yayyy!

{funny}
(This one doesn't actually have anything to do with house prep, but it involves the baby, who is relevant to any and all conversations:)
Andy meets banana!
He's not sure what he thinks about this whole "food" thing.

mmm, Mommy's finger is deLISH

But he likes having his picture taken!

{real}
didn't realize I had paint there until after I sat down
Sigh.

Foiled by the weather!

I don't think Katie's lemonade stand is going to be very profitable this afternoon.

In Which the Author Hopes Y'all Are Not Tired of Quick Takes Yet

You know, I think these are technically supposed to be done on Friday, as a summary of one's week.  To justify my posting on a Tuesday, in clear violation of QT custom, I assert that I thought of most of these LAST week, and only just now got to publishing them today.

N-E-way.

----------

Thanks to those of you who responded to my pitiful whining for comments. :)  They really do mean a lot to me, and I love seeing them.  I KNOW you lurkers are reading, because I can see the page view count for each post whenever I log in to write, but it's nice getting some feed back.  Otherwise this is a very one-sided conversation, and those aren't very satisfying, as any wife who has tried to begin one with her husband at 10:45 pm can attest.

----------

So on to more fun stuff like updates.

The best so far is: Andy is all better!  Boy, we had a rough few days of it.  As long as the rash lasted, he was super fussy and malcontent and refused to sleep unless he was attached to me, preferably like a leech.  It was such a relief the day he started smiling and happy-wiggling again, and allowed us to lay him down to play without pitching a fit.  We felt like we finally got our sweet baby back!

It took a couple days to get him to sleep in his bed again -- but several minutes of vigorous back patting (think karate chop massage but with your whole hand) does the trick.

----------

But now he's waking up at 1:30 am again.  And he's STARVING.  Time for solids, methinks!

--------

Daniel's sweet angelic exterior is developing cracks.  Yesterday at the library I caught him climbing the shelves.  He was three up before I noticed.

----------

And last week he tried to open an emergency door in Old Navy.  Wow, those alarms are loud.  I don't think he'll try that again.

----------

Note to self: never, ever, ever bring children along with oneself when shopping for clothing for oneself, even if one only needs to try on *one* thing.  Even if one's most responsible child is watching them right outside the changing room door and there is no one else in the store.  In the 30 seconds it takes one to get completely undressed, they will surely do something to embarrass one.  Like run up and down the aisle and then slam into an emergency exit door.

----------

Do you ever feel some days like you're here just to make other people feel better about themselves?  At least by comparison?

----------

Jojo has been very affectionate lately.  It's very cute.  He picks flowers for me, especially dandelions because he knows I like them.  He loves performing crazy antics to make Andy smile.  The funniest, though, is when he tries to give Daniel hugs.  As he approaches Daniel flinches and shrieks, because based on precedent he assumes Jojo is about to slug him.

----------

We're painting!  And I'm panicking!  Because I'm realizing just how long this stupid phase is going to last.  For some silly reason I was expecting to be able to get away with using only one coat of paint on things.  But then reality struck: the built-in bookshelves looked so awful and streaky after one coat.  And that was going from white to white!  Grrrrr.  I think I might have gotten away with one coat on the bathroom door, thankfully.  But if we have to do two coats on all the walls, this is going to take a looooooong time.

Plus this is Virginia, which means it's humid (it's raining cats and dogs currently), which means paint takes even LONGER to dry.

Sigh.  Woe is us.

----------

So we're pretty much boring people right now.  We spend all our evenings either packing boxes, fixing plaster, painting, or going to the hardware store.  During the day I wash dishes and do laundry and homeschool.  And this is going to be our life for the forseeable future!

Actually, the weekend was kind of fun.  We went to Sears to pick out a new dishwasher (hallelujah!) and then to the carpet store to order new carpet for the living room -- yeah, I know, we're wild and crazy!  Hold us back!  The children were absolute angels the whole time (it helps the carpet store has a dedicated kid table with all kinds of awesome kid toys -- the owners are geniuses!) so we rewarded them by going to Five Guys (The Hamburger Place of Awesomeness TM) and having a picnic lunch.  So that was fun.

On Sunday we looked at two houses -- one of which was really close to The One.  It was almost perfect, but not quite. (backyard full of ivy, no fireplace, very old furnace)  We talked about making an offer if it's still on the market in a couple weeks.  That's probably unlikely, since houses are selling like hotcakes these days, especially for that price.  But we really liked the model!  So now we just need to pray that another house just like it but with a fireplace and a flat-ish, fenced yard and a south-facing garden plot near The Bus Line of Awesomeness comes on the market when our house is finally ready to sell.  Ya hear that, St. Joe?

Pictures!  Pictures!  Just a couple today, folks.

Don't you wish you were this flexible?  I can feel my hamstrings whining when I just think about this pose.

mmm, salt and vinegar, yum yum yum

poor neglected child.  why doesn't his mother put him to bed??

Laterz.  If you need me, you can probably find me somewhere in my house with paintbrush in hand.

You know it's REALLY spring when...

.

...the bluebells are up!

You just can't get enough of the beauty of this place.

While you're there, it's almost too beautiful to appreciate fully.  It's only in looking back through these pictures that I begin to realize the glory by which we were surrounded.

 The bluebells themselves range in color from bluest blue to pinky-purple.  The little baby white flowers are spring beauties.

 I have a soft spot for them, b/c I always feel they're overshadowed by the glories of the bluebells.  But the spring beauties are exquisite in themselves.

Okay, blah blah, poetry, beauty, etc.  The REAL reason we came?

To throw rocks in the water.  OF COURSE.

 It's hard taking a picture of a baby on your back.

 We only made it a few yards down the trail before we came to our favorite "beach."  There were a couple other homeschool families with kids getting soaked too.  We had invited several friends to come along, but only one was able to make it.  We had a blast!  The kids played, the moms talked.  Our little friend won the prize for getting the most soaked.

 I spent an inordinate amount of time rolling up Daniel's pants legs.  I needn't have bothered.

Our poor citi-fied children don't have nearly enough opportunities to do stuff like climb on fallen tree trunks and scare the bejabbers out of their mothers.

Apparently we just missed the frogs by a couple days (it's an amazing thing to hear -- gazillions of frogs all croaking and peeping at the same time).  But we did see...
tadpoles tadpoles everywhere!
 After the kids got thoroughly soaked and muddy, we headed back down the trail to the playground for lunch.

eeny meeny miney moe...
 And then we headed home.  I think everyone (except Mom) fell asleep in the car!

from this picture it's hard to appreciate fully the total grubbiness of the boys' socks.  they were ORANGE.

Until next year...
sighhh...
