Patriotic Cake!
Miriam decorated the cake ALL BY HERSELF. Katie provided moral support (by crowding Miriam and saying "oooh! oooh!").

Mommy's little helpers II
After dinner we walked to a park 1 1/2 miles up the road to see fireworks. We intended to arrive a little early, but what with getting the double stroller set up and packing a bag and having to dodge traffic (there were no sidewalks) and Mrs. Pickles being out of shape, we ended up arriving just as the fireworks were starting! We weren't sure how the girls would react, but they LOVED them! The noise seemed to bother Miriam the most, but she's figured out how to stick her fingers in her ears. Katie just stared and stared.
After a busy day being all patriotic:

all tuckered out!
Mr. Pickles had to go ask the usual teenage hoodlums who thought it would be fun to set off bottle rockets in a crowded neighborhood at 11:30 pm to knock it off (Miriam was so freaked out she couldn't sleep), but other than that we had a great holiday!
God bless the USA!
To add another note: Miriam was such a good big sister. Whenever we had to off-road a bit on the way home (it is a heavy duty stroller), Miriam would hold Katie and support her head as we jostled around the rocks and mini-ravines.
ReplyDeleteAlso, when Katie fell asleep Miriam tried to help Katie rest on her shoulder. She had a little difficulty since Katie just flopped around like a ragdoll (as evidenced by the picture).
It was really sweet to see Miriam take care of her little sister. It's always good to see that Miriam loves her little sis despite all their yelling and fighting, which is what preceeded our trip.
My wife only mentions that she was lagging, but she didn't lag by much. By the end of the night we were both exhausted and didn't want to move our legs. It took great effort to walk the last half of our trip home.
